Arbre Crochet
Description:
Father Baraga landed on Beaver Island in 1832 after first working on the Arbre Crochet mission nearby. There were a number of Ojibwe who wished to become Christian that endured many hardships from other Ojibwe who wished for nothing to do with it. In the end, most of these Ojibwe started working with those at Arbre Crochet who were almost entirely confirmed into the Catholic Faith. Father Baraga then went back to this island after becoming Bishop and consecrated this church.

Near here is where Father Baraga set up his mission in 1843. Father Menard, the Jesuit missionary, wintered in this region as well near the location of L'Anse. Later this location became a center of economic wealth due to the lumber industry.

Copper Harbor
Description:
This website shows the locations of the shipwrecks located on the Copper Harbor Peninsula. The John Jacob Astor boat was a boat that Father Baraga periodically used. This boat sunk on September 21, 1844 just after Father Baraga moved to L'Anse just south of Copper Harbor. Father Baraga frequently went to Copper Harbor, so the loss of this boat would have been well known by him.

Description:
A number of Jesuits prior to Baraga served at Mackinac Island including Claude Dablon, S.J., Jacques Marquette, Louis Hennepin and more. In 1831 - 1832 at the same time Father Baraga was working at Beaver Island and Arbre Crochet, Father Baraga also frequented this location often. Mackinac Island was the main location of the fur trade post and the main stopping point for anyone who were traveling through the great lakes as it was situated close to Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Father Baraga, now Bishop Baraga, spent his last days near this location. The Venerable Bishop Baraga is laid to rest at this location and one can stop in to kneel and pray with him.

The Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison is the location that carries the 1844 Native pipe that was passed on from Chief Buffalo (who Baraga worked with) to Governor Doty. Chief Buffalo's son was ultimately the one who presented it to Governor Doty.
